The Ashanti Regional branch of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has engaged in discussions with government representatives on key strategies for national development, with a major focus on the implementation of a 24-hour economy.
The meeting, described as a strategic partnership, explored how organized labor can collaborate with the government to boost productivity, create jobs, and enhance Ghana’s economic resilience.

Speaking during the engagement, the government representative emphasized the need for sector-specific proposals from the TUC to ensure that workers have a direct role in shaping policies that affect their livelihoods.
“We must be partners in Ghana’s development—working together to build a more inclusive and prosperous nation,” he stated.

A key highlight of the discussions was the call for modesty in government spending, aligning with President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to financial prudence.
The leader cited Mahama’s recent decision to cut down the Independence Day celebration budget, describing it as a reflection of responsible leadership.

In the same spirit, he urged that May Day celebrations be conducted with similar fiscal discipline, ensuring that the focus remains on honoring workers without excessive expenditure.
The engagement reinforced the importance of a strong government-labor partnership in driving Ghana’s economic transformation.
The TUC pledged to continue collaborating with the government to refine policies that support both workers and national progress.

With Ghana’s 24-hour economy agenda gaining momentum, stakeholders remain optimistic that such initiatives will create more opportunities and strengthen the country’s economic foundations.
