The government has donated $50,000 each to Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars to aid their participation in the CAF Champions League.
President John Dramani Mahama made the announcement on Saturday during a courtesy call by the two clubs at the Jubilee House. The teams were accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Sports and the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The donation is meant to support the clubs’ preparations and participation in the league. President Mahama encouraged both sides to give their best and raise Ghana’s flag high on the continental stage.
The President also used the occasion to reaffirm his government’s commitment to sports infrastructure. He revealed plans to build seven new stadia across the country in 2026, especially in the newly created regions.
The Minister of Sports, who was also present, assured the President of the players’ dedication and readiness to make Ghana proud.
Meanwhile, the GFA President appealed to corporate Ghana to throw its weight behind the domestic league, saying that strong local support is key to sustained success in international competitions.
