In a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Defence, key government officials, including Defence Minister Omane Boamah, the Chief of Defence Staff, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, and other Members of Parliament, convened to assess the ongoing security challenges in Bawku due to a prolonged chieftaincy dispute.
The meeting, attended by Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, focused on evaluating the conflict’s impact on stability and exploring solutions to restore peace in the area.
Minister Mubarak, in a statement on his official Facebook page, reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to addressing the crisis through a comprehensive roadmap that integrates traditional conflict resolution mechanisms.
“This approach not only honours local customs but also aims to foster dialogue among stakeholders,” Minister Mubarak stated, emphasizing the government’s dedication to sustainable peace and national cohesion.
The meeting underscored the need for collective efforts involving traditional leaders, government agencies, and local communities to resolve the dispute and prevent further instability.
Security agencies have also been tasked with maintaining law and order in the region.
As tensions persist in Bawku, the government continues to engage key stakeholders in dialogue, hoping to achieve a lasting resolution that will support socio-economic development in the area.
