The Acting Director General of Ghana Education, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, has officially granted approval for public Senior High Schools to continue procuring key food items at the school level to feed students through June 30, 2025.
This extension follows an earlier directive that covered the period from February 19 to April 30, 2025.
In a letter dated April 3, 2025, with reference number DB225/378/01A, the Ministry of Education instructed Heads of Public Senior High Schools to purchase essential food commodities locally to ensure uninterrupted feeding of students.
The initial directive aimed to address supply challenges and improve food availability during the first quarter of the year.
However, starting July 1, 2025, the Ministry of Education plans to implement a revised procurement framework, subject to ongoing consultations with the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS).
The new arrangement aims to guarantee timely delivery, consistent quality, and sufficient quantity of food supplies.
Under this framework the Ministry will supply the following items centrally
Rice, Tom brown, Hot chocolate, Vegetable oil, Palm oil, Sardine, Mackerel, Tin tomatoes, Margarine, Sugar, Milk and Flour.
Whiles heads of Schools will continue to procure the following items locally including Gari, Peanuts, Soya beans, Millet
, Maize and Beans.
Also, the statement emphasized that the recurrent financial allocation to CHASS will be reviewed and adjusted upward to reflect the changes in procurement responsibilities and ensure adequate funding for the feeding program.
Regional Directors of Education have been instructed to disseminate this information promptly to all Heads of Public Senior High Schools, Senior High Technical, and STEM Schools within their jurisdictions to facilitate smooth implementation.
