The newly renovated A4 and A5 wards of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have been officially handed over to the hospital’s management for inpatient care, marking a significant milestone in the “Heal Komfo Anokye” project.
The refurbishment of the two wards forms part of the first phase of the $10 million renovation initiative spearheaded by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
This project aims to restore the second-largest referral hospital in Ghana, which has been in a deteriorated state for over 70 years.

The wards, which have undergone a major transformation with the installation of state-of-the-art medical equipment and facilities, will each accommodate 32 patients across five floors.
The renovation, valued at $1.2 million, was solely funded by Mr. Justice Amoh, Chief Executive Officer of Justmoh Group of Companies.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Mr. Amoh urged hospital staff to maintain the new facility to ensure its longevity.
Chairman of the Heal Komfo Anokye project, Mr. Sammy Adu Boakye, acknowledged the significant contribution of Mr. Amoh and emphasized the importance of preserving the investment made.

He assured that the project team is committed to completing additional phases within the coming months.
Mr. Fred Effah, Director of Administration at KATH, highlighted the hospital’s crucial role in providing healthcare to 12 out of the 16 regions in Ghana.
He stressed that the renovation and expansion efforts were necessary to enhance service delivery and accommodate the growing number of patients from the middle and northern belts of the country.

Management of KATH expressed their appreciation for the renovation, describing it as a monumental improvement that will enhance patient care and overall service delivery.

The Heal Komfo Anokye project, launched in November 2023, by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II aims to raise funds from private individuals and corporate organizations to modernize the hospital’s facilities.

The initiative was introduced after the Asantehene expressed concern over the deteriorating state of the hospital and called for urgent intervention.

The successful completion of the A4 and A5 wards marks a significant step towards achieving the project’s broader objective of revitalizing Ghana’s second-largest teaching hospital.
