In a somber announcement during a press briefing at the Presidency, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah confirmed the death of eight individuals following the crash of a Z-9 military helicopter in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region earlier today.
Among the deceased are several prominent government officials and military personnel, including Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mp, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Lemu, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture; and Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress.
Also killed in the tragic incident were Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Mr Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter, Flying Officer Ampadu, Seargeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
Chief of Staff Debrah expressed deep sorrow, stating, “I have the unpleasant duty sadly to announce a national tragedy involving the crash of a military helicopter this morning around the Adansi Area in Ashanti Region.”
He extended the government’s heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of the fallen comrades and service members who died in service to the nation.
As a mark of respect, all national flags have been ordered to fly at half-mast until further notice.
The government has not yet disclosed the cause of the crash, and an investigation is expected to be launched promptly to determine the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.
