A commercial trotro driver has publicly praised President John Dramani Mahama’s performance during his first 120 days in office, highlighting improvements in everyday life as evidence of effective governance.
The driver, speaking to the media, said he no longer specifies the amount of fuel he wants when filling up, but simply asks attendants to fill his tank, a sign he associates with positive change under the current administration.
“If the NDC hadn’t come to power, I would have died by now. I am a trotro driver. Today, anytime I go to the pump, I don’t say the amount I’m buying; I ask them to fill my car for me”, the driver stated.
“Today, when I close from work, I am able to give my wife and children money. Happiness is in my house. If you don’t want this, what else do you want?”
He added that his wife, who had divorced him, returned after the NDC assumed office, reflecting his improved circumstances.
“A good party is in government. My wife divorced me, but when the NDC came to power, she came back”
“If NDC didn’t come to power, we wouldn’t even have been able to buy one egg at 12 cedis,” he remarked.
The driver also expressed a sense of peace and optimism about the country’s future, crediting the government’s efforts.
“Today there’s good air in Ghana. When I sleep, I don’t worry about anything. If God does not bless President Mahama, I won’t even accept it. NDC, I’ll die for them,” he declared.
This grassroots endorsement comes amid broader national assessments of President Mahama’s early tenure.
The President recently delivered a detailed account of his administration’s achievements in the first 120 days, emphasizing a lean government structure, tax reforms including the scrapping of the e-levy, and job creation initiatives such as the Adwumawura apprenticeship and the one million coders programme.
He also highlighted efforts to tackle illegal mining and environmental degradation, and to enhance transparency and accountability in governance.
