Ignore premature commissioning of Ashanti regional Hospital by Akufo Addo -Euroget De-Invest S.A.

Euroget De-Invest S.A., the construction firm behind the Ashanti Regional 250-bed hospital in Sewua, has expressed grave concerns over the recent commissioning of the facility by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In a press release issued today, the company’s Group Chairman, Dr. Said Deraz, described the commissioning, which took place on Saturday, 4th January 2025, as a violation of the terms of their contract.

The company stated that it has not yet received full payment for the hospital’s construction, and the project remains incomplete.

As a result, Euroget De-Invest S.A. retains possession of the site and did not authorize any party to commission the facility.

“Euroget did not give anyone permission to enter the site. Possession is still ours until we hand over in the correct and legal manner,” Dr. Deraz emphasized in the statement.

He further described the government’s actions as a breach of contract, stating, “This is a breach of the contract. We haven’t handed over, and every step should be taken to claim damages against all previous commissioning because, by this action, the President is implying that he could have commissioned those hospitals without incurring any costs on our part.”

Lack of Consultation and Exclusion

The statement highlighted that Euroget, which secured the funding for the project, was neither consulted about the commissioning nor represented at the event. This exclusion, the company argues, undermines their role in the project and raises concerns about adherence to legal and contractual obligations.

Euroget also questioned the timing of the commissioning, just three days before the transition of power in Ghana, suggesting that it might have been politically motivated rather than in the interest of the public.

The company expressed alarm over what it termed a “serious breach of security,” as the commissioning took place without their authorization. They warned that such actions could set a dangerous precedent for future government contracts and projects.

Call for Investigation

Euroget has called on relevant authorities to investigate the matter, emphasizing that the commissioning of the hospital, intended to be a moment of pride, has instead become a source of legal and contractual contention.

The Euroget reaffirming its commitment to completing the hospital to the highest standards while urging the government to respect the rule of law and honor its contractual obligations.

The Ashanti Regional 250-bed hospital is one of several healthcare projects undertaken by Euroget De-Invest S.A. in Ghana. Once completed, it is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region.

Euroget pledged to keep the public informed about developments and indicated readiness to seek damages for any breaches of contract.

For further updates, the company has promised to provide evidence, including photos, to support their claims about the hospital’s current state.
