The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and its surrounding communities in the North East Region following violent disturbances that led to the burning of two houses and threats of further attacks.
According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service on Thursday, the deployment comes in response to reports that some youth set two houses ablaze in Nalerigu, the regional capital, and threatened to burn additional properties and attack residents.
The statement said the security reinforcement is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and strengthening security presence in the affected areas.
The police will also enforce the curfew imposed by government on Nalerigu and its environs.
In addition, the reinforcement teams will support the North East Regional Police Command to intensify security patrols on major highways to ensure the safety of commuters and prevent any spillover of violence.
The Police Command assured the general public, particularly residents of Nalerigu, that investigations into the attacks and arson incidents are ongoing, adding that all persons found to be involved will be arrested and prosecuted.
The statement was signed by DSP Robert Anabik Anmain, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the North East Regional Police Command.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, comply with the curfew restrictions, and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to restore peace and stability in the area.
