The Attorney General, Godfred Dame, has justified why he refused to accept the €2 million plea bargain in the case against the Minority Leader, Dr. Casseil Ato Forson and business man, Richard Jakpa on behalf of the State.
According to him, he chose not to go to that tangent because of public perception.
“If I had accepted this, I am sure you would be questioning my integrity, and if subsequently Big Sea had defaulted, how would the accused persons be held responsible?” the AG quizzed.
On Asempa FM, the AG further stated to that: “I’m saying that if I accepted the plea bargain in the manner it came, Ghanaians would say that I have gone for money and so on”.
Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa, were discharged and acquitted by Court of Appeal after the State dragged them to court for causing financial loss.
They were charged with allegedly causing a financial loss of €2.37 million to the state in a deal to procure ambulances for the Government of Ghana.
The court overturned the previous order from the trial court, which required Dr. Ato Forson and Jakpa to open their defense
