The Minister of Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has commended the Ghana Police Service for exercising restraint during a recent elections 2024, emphasizing that not a single shot was fired despite heightened tensions.
Speaking during his working tour of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the minister highlighted the professionalism displayed by officers, noting that their decision not to use force was a significant step in ensuring peace and stability.
“For the first time, no single shot was fired by the police. The only gunfire heard came from the opposing side, not from law enforcement. This demonstrates discipline and adherence to the principles of responsible policing,” Alhaji Muntaka stated.
He urged officers to continue prioritizing de-escalation tactics and to bring offenders to justice through legal means rather than the use of excessive force.
“I encourage you to pursue those responsible and bring them to book. Your decision not to fire should not be mistaken for weakness—it is a sign of professionalism. The evidence will be there, and justice will be served,” he assured.
The minister also stressed the need for police stations to be well-equipped, suggesting that every station should have at least four patrol vehicles to enhance mobility and efficiency in responding to security threats.
He said” I’m aware challenges you are facing as your Minister I will do everything possible to assist you getvthe gob done”
