Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, on Tuesday hosted a delegation from the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) Committee on Trade, Customs and Immigration at his office in Accra.
The team, led by Hon. Rodney Cloete, a Member of Parliament from Namibia, is in Ghana to assess the progress of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Guided Trade Initiative and to promote protocols that enhance the free movement of people across the African continent.
In a statement on Facebook, Alhaji Muntaka described the visit as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration towards realizing the objectives of the AfCFTA and fostering greater regional integration.
“As a former member of the Pan-African Parliament with over a decade of service, I warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed deep enthusiasm for our fruitful dialogue,” he stated.
Discussions between the minister and the committee focused on strategies to boost intra-African trade, promote peaceful coexistence, and deepen regional cooperation.
The committee also reiterated the immense potential of the AfCFTA to drive sustainable economic growth, while highlighting the importance of removing barriers to visa-free travel and improving border efficiency across Africa.
According to the minister, the engagement reflects the Pan-African Parliament’s broader commitment to advancing policies that promote unity, mobility, and development across the continent.
The AfCFTA, which seeks to create a single market for goods and services across Africa, remains one of the flagship initiatives of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, aimed at accelerating economic integration and boosting trade among African nations.
