The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has called on Ghanaians to help maintain peace and security during the festive season, stressing that national development cannot thrive without a peaceful environment.
In a Christmas message shared on his official Facebook page, the Interior Minister expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation with security agencies in keeping the country safe.
As part of measures to enhance security, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak reminded the public of the ongoing gun amnesty declared by the Ministry of the Interior, which aims to reduce the proliferation of illegal firearms in the country.
He encouraged individuals in possession of illegal weapons to voluntarily surrender them at any police station nationwide by January 15, 2026, assuring that no prosecution would follow for those who comply within the amnesty period.
According to the Minister, persons who fail to surrender illegal firearms after the deadline will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Interior Minister assured the public that security agencies have been fully deployed and remain on high alert to protect lives and property before, during and after the festive season.
He reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability across the country and urged citizens to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
