Interior ministry introduces fresh recruitment protocols after El-Wak tragedy
Share on WhatsApp

The Ministry of the Interior has rolled out a new set of recruitment guidelines for the nation’s security agencies following last Wednesday’s incident at the El-Wak Stadium, where six young applicants lost their lives during a military enlistment exercise.

With the application window for the remaining security institutions now shifted from today to Monday, the ministry announced the deployment of a centralised digital recruitment platform, designed to streamline and unify the entry process across all Interior Ministry agencies.

At a press briefing in Accra yesterday, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak explained that the adjustment of dates became necessary after the fatal stampede that disrupted the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise.

“After the unfortunate occurrence during the GAF enlistment last Wednesday, and following consultations with the heads of the security services, the ministry has moved the commencement of applications from Saturday, November 15 to Monday, November 17, 2025, in honour of those who lost their lives and those who were injured,” he stated.

Revised procedures

As part of efforts to guarantee an orderly and secure recruitment process, the minister indicated that fresh schedules would be advertised in the national newspapers, on official ministry websites, and across social media channels.

He urged applicants to obtain their e-recruitment vouchers from any GCB Bank branch nationwide or utilise the online and USSD options that will be detailed in the upcoming public announcement.

Mr Mohammed-Mubarak emphasised that the new platform is a secure, highly efficient digital portal intended to support heavy traffic and allow a smooth, fully online application process accessible from any location.

He noted that the ministry would also introduce multiple screening locations nationwide to eliminate congestion and reduce risks. These centres would be evenly distributed to ensure easy access for all applicants.

Dedicated support channels

According to the minister, numerous phone support lines will be active around the clock to address concerns from applicants. The system will also automatically assign applicants to screening centres and notify them of their designated locations to prevent overcrowding.

“No screening venue will host more than 1,000 people at any given moment. This is to maintain order and ensure safety,” he said. Screening will be conducted in phases, with one security agency completing its process before another begins to avoid excessive crowds.

He stressed that the recruitment process would be fair and merit-based. Dispelling rumours circulating on social media, he insisted that no pre-selection had been conducted and reaffirmed that the recruitment exercise is not for sale.

Mr Mohammed-Mubarak issued a stern warning to individuals posing as agents or middlemen, adding that anyone caught attempting to sell recruitment slots would be prosecuted. He encouraged the public to report such fraudulent activities.

The minister urged qualified citizens to take up the opportunity to serve in the security services.

“We are seeking committed, skilled and patriotic Ghanaians willing to dedicate themselves to national service. If you meet the requirements, we encourage you to apply. This is a vital chance to join a respected institution and support national development,” he said.
