Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama has said that “choices have consequences,” referencing Ghana’s decision in the 2016 and 2020 elections which brought the Akufo Addo and Bawumia led government to power, urging citizens to correct what he describes as past mistakes in the upcoming 2024 polls.

“Choices have consequences if you make the right choice ot leads to success and a better life. If you make a wrong choice it leads to hardship and disaster. Unfortunately in 2016 we made the wrong choice , in 2020 we repeated that choice , and I know on 7th December 2024 we are going to correct the mistakes that we made and bring NDC back to the office. And so on 7th December something is going to happen here in Nsawam Adoagyiri”.Mahama said when addressing supporters of the NDC and chiefs in Nsawam Adoagyiri constituency as he kicked off a five-day campaign tour of the Eastern Region.

President Mahama emphasized the declining state of the economy and the harsh living conditions under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mahama noted that the tenure of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by him witnessed gradual progress in Ghana’s development, claiming that the NPP deceived Ghanaians to gain power.

He stated that after eight years, the NPP government has failed to deliver, worsening the plight of Ghanaians and fueling a growing desire for change, even among some NPP supporters.

“When I was President, I won’t say all was rossy but comparing our current state to the previous I can beat my chest to say it was far better. Because at that when you are hungry and want to buy kenkey you only need Ghc1 but today here in Nsawam a ball of kenkey is now ghc5 are now being sold Ghc7 “.

He condemned the Akufo-Addo administration for its failure to sustain and improve gains made by previous governments, positioning himself as an experienced leader ready to take charge again.

He further criticized the government for its repeated failure to accept responsibility, shifting blame from him [Mahama] to external factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

“When I was President, all was not perfect but comparing our current state to the previous I can beat my chest to say it was far better. Because at that when you are hungry and want to buy kenkey you only need Ghc1 but today here in Nsawam , a ball of kenkey is now ghc5 are now being sold Ghc7”.

He added ” If it were exams that Bawumia and Akufo Addo wrote they would have failed. If you write exams and get F9 in my chase you will be rasticated from the school. So Ghanaians say the will vote out the government on 7th December because they have failed.

The former president also questioned the NPP’s claims of fixing 12,000 kilometers of roads, citing the deplorable state of roads across the country, including those in Nsawam Adoagyiri.

Mahama reiterated his plans to establish a new industrial zone along the Amasaman-Nsawam-Suhum stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway, which he said would create job opportunities for young people.

He also pledged to construct a market in Nsawam under the NDC’s market enhancement program, including the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank branch to offer traders collateral-free, low-interest loans.

Addressing NDC supporters, Mahama called for vigilance during the elections, urging them to “police the ballot” by documenting the counting and declaration of results with video recording to ensure transparency.
