The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that financial clearance has been secured to pay the outstanding salaries of 6,249 teachers recruited in 2024.
This announcement comes after weeks of protests by teachers from the 2022 College of Education batch and university graduates, who marched to key government offices demanding payment of their 13- and 9-month salary arrears.
The demonstrations began on Tuesday, September 30, at Obra Spot near Nkrumah Circle and saw teachers proceed to the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, and finally Jubilee House to press their demands.
In an official statement signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, the Service revealed that the financial clearance allows them to finalize all necessary procedures to facilitate the payment of the pending salaries.
“The Ghana Education Service (GES) announces that financial clearance has been granted for the payment of salaries of the remaining six thousand two hundred and forty-nine (6,249) teachers recruited in 2024,” the statement read.
GES management assured that all affected teachers will be integrated into the mechanized payroll system in time for the November 2025 salary disbursement
The statement indicated “This approval allows the Ghana Education Service to complete all necessary processes to ensure the staff receive their salaries.
“Although this financial dearance expires on 31st December, 2025, Managerment of GES will ensure that all staff are placed on the mechanised payrol in time for November 2025 payments,” the statement emphasized.
The statement also expressed gratitude to staff for their dedication and reiterated GES’s commitment to ensuring timely and accurate salary payments moving forward.
