The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has urged the Election Security Task Force to address past election-related security lapses and assure Ghanaians of a peaceful and secure electoral process ahead of the December polls.
Speaking at a meeting organized by the Election Security Task Force with representatives from various political parties, Mr. Kodua emphasized the importance of professionalism by security agencies in maintaining peace during the elections.
The engagement aimed to identify critical issues affecting election security and foster collaboration among stakeholders to ensure a smooth electoral process.
Mr. Kodua noted that lessons from previous elections must be reviewed to prevent a recurrence of violence.
He stressed the need for fair and impartial actions from security agencies to protect the integrity of the elections.
“Election security is non-negotiable, and we expect our security agencies to perform their duties with professionalism and neutrality. This will reassure the public and build trust in the electoral process,” he stated.
He also called on political parties to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and actions that could incite violence.
According to him, the collective effort of all stakeholders, including the media, is crucial in promoting peace and deterring potential disruptions.
The meeting further highlighted concerns about the use of money to influence voters and the role of misinformation in fueling tensions.
Participants stressed the importance of collaboration between political parties, civil society organizations, and the media in countering such threats.
The Election Security Task Force reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all voters, candidates, and officials throughout the election period. The Task Force urged political actors to support its efforts by adhering to the rules and promoting a peaceful electoral process.
This initiative comes as Ghana prepares for its December general elections, a pivotal event in the country’s democratic journey.
