The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) is on a mission to become the most patient-friendly healthcare facility in Ghana. This was reaffirmed by the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, during the second edition of KATH’s senior and consultants consultative forum held in Kumasi.
In his address, Prof. Addai-Mensah outlined the hospital’s new agenda, which prioritizes delivering quality, patient-centered care. He emphasized the critical role of staff, particularly senior specialists and consultants, in achieving this goal.
Vision for Excellence
“The New KATH Agenda is to make the hospital the most patient-friendly facility in the country through the provision of specialist and sub-specialist services that meet and even exceed the expectations of our clients,” the CEO stated.
Prof. Addai-Mensah highlighted that the consultative forum was specifically designed to engage senior specialists and consultants, acknowledging their contributions as the foundation of specialized care, mentorship, and clinical innovation at the hospital.
“We cannot achieve our target without you because as Senior Specialists and Consultants, you represent the pillars upon which specialist and sub-specialist care are delivered and clinical innovations are developed,” he stressed.
He urged all staff to commit to advancing KATH’s mission by maintaining excellence in patient care, ensuring continuous learning, and identifying sustainable solutions to enhance service delivery.
Improving Dialysis Services
Prof. Addai-Mensah shared significant strides made in enhancing the hospital’s renal care. He revealed that KATH now has 13 dialysis machines, enabling the hospital to increase its monthly dialysis sessions from 80 to over 300.
This milestone was achieved through strategic investments in the hospital’s internally generated funds (IGF), including the recent procurement of four new machines at a cost of GH₵2.8 million. Additional contributions, such as two new dialysis machines donated by the Ghana Airport Company Limited, have further strengthened KATH’s capacity to serve renal patients.
Support from NHIA
The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Dacosta Aboagye, who was a special guest at the forum, lauded KATH’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery. He pledged the NHIA’s support in providing more dialysis machines to enhance the hospital’s renal unit.
Dr. Aboagye also assured stakeholders of the NHIA’s commitment to settling claims promptly. “Unlike previously where the NHIA owed health facilities for several months and years, this government has ensured that resources are available to pay claims promptly so these facilities can deliver quality care to Ghanaians,” he said.
Commitment to Excellence
KATH’s management remains dedicated to optimizing resources and fostering innovation to achieve its vision of becoming Ghana’s leading patient-centered healthcare facility.
Prof. Addai-Mensah called on all stakeholders to align with this vision, ensuring that every visitor to the hospital experiences world-class service and care.
