Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, has raised concerns about the authenticity of delegates’ residency in some constituencies.
Speaking in an interview on Abusua965FM’s program Abusua AdweneKyere with Osempakani, he revealed that during the campaign, they discovered delegates who do not reside within the constituencies they represent.
He said “While we were going around campaigning and calling on delegates, in some particular constituencies, none of the delegates actually live in the constituency.”
Responding to recent comments made by Kwame Baffoe, Bono Regional NPP Chairman, who suggested removing certain delegates from the regional register, Dr. Boakye-Danquah questioned the authority of a regional chairman to have sole control over compiling the delegates’ list.
He asked, “How come we do delegates’ album and the Chairman has so much responsibility to make a delegates’ album?”
Dr. Boakye-Danquah explained that while campaigning and engaging with delegates across constituencies, they found instances where none of the delegates actually live in the constituencies they represent.
When the host sought clarification about whether those delegates were still considered part of the constituencies, he replied firmly, “They’re not part of the constituency.”
He expressed deeper concerns that some Members of Parliament might have deliberately manipulated the delegates’ list to their own advantage.
“This is why I am pleased with the idea of expanding the delegates system,” he said.
“The New Patriotic Party needs a complete overhaul of the delegates system so that the real patriots of the party, those who have served and continue to support the party wholeheartedly become delegates to strengthen the party,” he added.
