A pro–New Patriotic Party (NPP) political action group, OAK for President 2028, has assured party delegates of protection against intimidation and victimisation before and after the party’s January 31st Presidential primaries.

According to the group, Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, a leading flagbearer hopeful, is committed to safeguarding all delegates particularly those who support his candidacy from any attempts to remove them from party positions through unfair means after the primaries.

Addressing the media in Koforidua, the National Coordinator of “OAK for President 2028” , Yaa Ansaa Safori, alleged that there are widespread reports of threats against delegates perceived to be supporting Kennedy Agyepong.

She claimed that some delegates have been warned they could lose their executive positions during the party’s internal electoral processes because of their political choices.

“Any attempt to intimidate or remove delegates from their positions for supporting Kennedy Agyepong will be strongly resisted,” she stated.

Yaa Ansaa Safori further assured delegates that Kennedy Agyepong is prepared to work with all party members and protect their interests, urging them to remain bold and vote in a manner that serves the long-term future of the NPP rather than the interests of a few individuals.

The Press Statement read by George Nelson Gyimah ,Coordinator ,OAK for President, Abuakwa North, questioned the electoral appeal of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, particularly the message he is presenting to party delegates nationwide.

The group argued that Dr. Bawumia’s campaign has yet to articulate a compelling economic or social vision capable of energising delegates or the broader electorate.

They further contended that his 2024 performance disrupted the NPP’s historical electoral growth trend, noting a steady rise in votes under previous candidates—from Prof. Adu Boahen through Presidents J.A. Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo—before a sharp decline in 2024.

“Is Dr Bawumia a weak candidate? Prof Adu Boahen in 1992 had about 1.2 million votes, J.A Kuffour in 1996 had 2.8 million votes, 3.6 million in 2000 and 4.5 million in 2004.Nana Addo secured 4.5 million in 2008.5.2 million in 2012, 5.8 million in 2016 and 6.7 million in 2020”

The group explained further ” defeating the cycle of the NPP’s electoral growth, resilience and strength, Dr. Bawumia with all the resources and his economic and data man accolades managed while gasping for breath a disappointing 4.8 million votes. In 2008, even though Nana Addo was not victorious, the NDC won the election by the skin of the teeth. Not just that, the Nana Addo led NPP then gave the NDC a hot chase for their money. Dr. Bawumia however in 2024 secured the fastest and undisputable defeat ever in the history of multiparty democracy in Ghana”

The group, further averred that, out of the country’s 16 regions, Dr. Bawumia reportedly won fewer constituencies than NPP parliamentary candidates, raising further questions about his national appeal.

Describing the NPP as being at a critical crossroads, OAK for President urged delegates to prioritise electability over sentiment.

The group endorsed Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, portraying him as a grassroots-oriented candidate with broad national appeal that cuts across ethnic, religious, and regional lines.

According to the group, the party’s goal should be to select a candidate who offers the clearest and least burdensome path back to power in 2028.

“The decision of January 31, 2026, will either reset the party’s fortunes or deepen its electoral challenges,” the group concluded.
