Kennedy Kwasi Kankam, a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Asokore Mampong Municipality and former Member of Parliament for the Nhyiaeso Constituency, is set to contest the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a close source has confirmed.
According to the source, Kennedy Kankam will officially enter the race once the party opens nominations for eligible members in good standing ahead of the upcoming regional executive elections.
The source revealed that the former Nhyeaso MP has already begun groundwork toward the contest by assembling a campaign team and deploying members across the Ashanti Region.
“Currently, my boss is busy putting together his campaign team and touring the region to gain a fair understanding of the concerns of party members,” the source said. “This will help us structure a campaign manifesto that truly represents the interests of the party.”
The source acknowledged that several individuals have expressed interest in the regional chairmanship position but insisted that Kennedy Kankam stands out due to his extensive experience within the party.
“We have heard the names of individuals who have shown interest in the upcoming regional executive elections,” the source noted. “I want to tell Kumasi Mail that Kennedy Kankam will contest, and he is the most experienced person for the job. I don’t need to say much you already know that.”
The Ashanti Regional Chairmanship is considered one of the most influential positions within the NPP, given the region’s status as the party’s traditional stronghold.
The upcoming election is therefore expected to attract keen competition and heightened political activity.
