Former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta is currently out of the country undergoing medical treatment and will be unable to honor an invitation from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Letter in respose to OSP’s invitation by his legal counsel has disclosed.
In a letter addressed to Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, the law firm Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline & Partners, representing Ofori-Atta, stated that a directive from the OSP requiring his attendance on February 10, 2025, could not be honored due to his absence from Ghana.
According to the legal team, the invitation letter dated January 24, 2025, was delivered to their client’s security post but was not immediately seen by him due to his medical travels.
They emphasized that prior notice of his trip had been communicated to the Chief of Staff earlier in January, adding that Ofori-Atta was receiving medical care and awaiting further guidance from his doctors before deciding on his return to Ghana.
The legal team assured the OSP of their cooperation, stating that they are willing to provide any necessary information to aid investigations until their client is back in the country.
They also promised to notify the OSP once Ofori-Atta’s return date is confirmed, so his in-person invitation can be rescheduled.
Ofori-Atta’s invitation by the Special Prosecutor has raised public interest, as the nature of the investigation remains undisclosed. However, his lawyers’ response now places focus on when he will be able to return to Ghana and whether the OSP will take further steps in the meantime.
The OSP has yet to respond to the legal team’s request for a rescheduled meeting.
