Kumasi-based businessman and founder of the Kessben Group of Companies, Stephen Kwabena Boateng, popularly known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben, has died at the age of 68.
Mr Kesse, who was the Executive Chairman of the Kessben Group of Companies, is reported to have died after a period of illness.
His death was confirmed to KumasiMail, with sources indicating that the veteran businessman passed away at the age of 68.
Born on September 12, 1957, Mr Kesse grew up at North Suntreso in Kumasi and built a diverse business empire spanning education, transportation, hospitality, media and financial services.
Over more than three decades, he successfully developed and managed a group of businesses under the Kessben brand.
The Kessben Group of Companies comprises Kessben Travel and Tours, Kessben Driving School, Kessben Computer School, Kessben Shipping and Forwarding Limited, Fosua Hotel and Conference Centre, Kessben University College, Kessben Consult and Kessben Foundation.
His business interests also extended to the media industry through Kessben FM Limited, the company under which Kessben FM, Kessben TV and Aseda TV operate.
Mr Kesse was the sole shareholder of Kessben FM Limited and played a significant role in the development of private broadcasting in the Ashanti Region.
He also held majority shares in Multi Credit Savings and Loans Limited.
Beyond his business activities, Mr Kesse was known for his philanthropic contributions and involvement in national development initiatives.
He served on the National Peace Council, where he contributed to efforts aimed at promoting peace and social cohesion in Ghana.
His death is expected to be widely mourned, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where he built a strong business presence and became a prominent figure in the private sector.
