Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has suspended all public gatherings and student programmes on campus following a violent clash involving groups of students that left one student injured.
The incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026. According to university authorities, the injured student is currently receiving medical treatment at the University Hospital and is responding positively to treatment.
In a press release dated February 10, KNUST management said it viewed the incident with “grave concern” and has taken immediate steps to safeguard lives and property on campus.
As part of the measures, the university has launched investigations to identify all individuals involved in the clash, with appropriate sanctions to be applied in line with university regulations and due process.
“All public gatherings and student programmes are suspended until further notice,” the statement said, adding that only officially approved religious, medical or humanitarian activities would be permitted during the period.
Management also announced that it is working closely with the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to arrest and prosecute students or other persons found to have disturbed the peace on campus.
In addition, the university reiterated its earlier directive that the names and photographs of students who have been dismissed, rusticated or suspended for disciplinary reasons would continue to be published on official platforms as a deterrent to others.
The statement, signed by the University Relations Officer (URO), Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, on behalf of the Registrar, assured students, staff, parents, alumni and other stakeholders of KNUST’s commitment to maintaining safety, security and order on campus.
“Every necessary measure will be taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and to maintain peace and order,” management said.
The university noted that further updates would be communicated as investigations into the incident continue.
