Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has firmly rejected calls from the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia campaign to position him as a trusted figure for Ghanaians ahead of the December 7 elections.
In a recent interview aired on The Next Chapter, a media program sponsored by Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, Kufuor faced pointed questions from a panel of four journalists based in the Ashanti Region.
During the interview, the former President fielded questions regarding his time in office, notable achievements, Dr. Bawumia’s accomplishments, and his relationship with him. He also shared insights on Ghana’s future prospects.
The program, which marks a significant media initiative, featured prominent journalists including Kwame Adinkra from Pure FM, Oheneba Nana Asiedu of Wontumi TV, Kwame Tanko of Lawson TV, and Sampson K Nyamekye of Hello FM.
A Cautious Response
During the interview, Kwame Adinkra posed a direct question to Kufuor, urging him to look into the camera and tell Ghanaians why they should place their trust and hope in him and vote for Dr. Bawumia. In an unexpected turn, Kufuor hesitated and replied, “I can’t say it in that way,” leaving viewers to ponder his reluctance to endorse Bawumia directly.
This moment underscored the former president’s cautious stance as he navigated the politically charged atmosphere leading up to the elections.
Emphasizing Voter Participation
When pressed further about the importance of voting, Kufuor shifted the conversation towards civic responsibility.
He emphasized that every Ghanaian should recognize the significance of their vote and actively participate in the electoral process. “Voting is important,” he stated, urging citizens to be proactive in exercising their democratic rights
