Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed a serene acceptance of death, describing it as a natural part of life that he does not fear.
In an interview on the “Delay Show” with host Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, Kufuor was asked about his long family lifespan and whether he hopes to live to 100 years.
The former president responded thoughtfully, emphasizing that longevity is determined by God alone.
“That is the will of God; only He can decide. Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow,” Kufuor said. “I know people who are 100 years old and still pray to God for strength and health. Everyone prays for life and good health.”
He added that happiness is an essential element of well-being. When Delay asked if he is happy, Kufuor replied with a smile, “If I’m not happy, I cannot laugh with you. Even looking at your beautifulness, I’m happy.”
The host humorously acknowledged the compliment, calling him “so cute.”
The conversation then turned to a more reflective topic. Delay asked if Kufuor, being over 80 years old and having witnessed the passing of loved ones, feels that an “end of an era” is near.
Kufuor responded calmly and with gentle wisdom. “I have known for a long time that as a human being, one day you will leave this earth,” he said.
“When you’re young, you’re with your siblings but as you grow, we scatter. At my age, some deaths are painful, but nature trains or adjusts us to the reality that a time will come for us to go. Psychologically, we get adjusted,” he added.
Addressing Delay’s admission that she feared death in her 40s, the former president offered advice stating, “That’s why I’m advising you that nature has a way of helping us adjust to life’s realities.”
Kufuor also reflected on his current health, noting that while accidents have impacted his mobility, “by God’s grace, I’m healthy and strong.”
