Presidential staffer Dr. Samuel Aryeh says the Kumasi-Accra Expressway project is expected to create at least 30,000 direct jobs while improving trade and economic activity in the Ashanti Region.
According to Dr. Aryeh, the project forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen the Ghanaian economy through strategic infrastructure development and the construction of roads that support commerce.
Speaking on Ultimate FM in Kumasi, monitored by Kumasi Mail he said the improved road network would facilitate the movement of people and goods between Kumasi and Accra, creating a more conducive environment for businesses to operate and expand.
Dr. Aryeh also criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming that the party failed to undertake major road projects in the Ashanti Region during its eight years in government.
He alleged that the NPP was therefore unhappy with the construction of the Kumasi-Accra Expressway, which he said would deliver significant economic benefits to the region.
Suame Interchange
Touching on the Suame Interchange project, Dr. Aryeh said the previous NPP administration allocated significant resources to the project but failed to complete it before leaving office.
He said that when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government assumed office in 2015, the contractor had left the site, leaving the project incomplete due to lack of funds.
According to him, the government subsequently worked to secure additional funding of $23 million and facilitate the contractor’s return to site.
Dr. Aryeh said the progress currently being made on the project demonstrates the government’s commitment to completing major infrastructure projects in the region.
He maintained that the government’s priority is to grow the Ghanaian economy by investing in infrastructure, particularly roads that can promote trade and commerce.
He said such investments would not only improve transportation but also create employment opportunities and stimulate economic activity across the country.
