The Faculty of Creative Arts and Technology at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has launched its annual fashion show and exhibition, Fashion Expression 2024, as part of the university’s 70th-anniversary celebrations.
The event, themed “Celebrating Seven Decades of Fashion Excellence,” showcases the creative talents of final-year students in the Fashion Design and Textiles Studies Department.
This year’s edition features 103 HND students and 92 BTech students presenting their exclusive collections of fashion, textiles, and accessories.
In his address, Professor Thomas Obeng Asare, Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts and Technology, emphasized the significance of fashion in reflecting culture, aspirations, and individuality.
He highlighted the passion and creativity of the students, evident in their stunning garment pieces, and commended the university management for their commitment to providing resources for smooth academic activities.
Rev Dr. Timothy Crentsil, Head of the Fashion Design and Textiles Studies Department, welcomed guests and acknowledged the growing awareness of hands-on skills guaranteeing ready employment for the youth. He appealed to the government and university management to fast-track the completion of the FCAT edifice at the Adako-Jachie Campus to accommodate the increasing number of students.
The event features 66 groups of students presenting their creative collections, showcased on the runway by 50 well-trained models, mostly students from diverse disciplines at KTU.
The department has enjoyed collaborative partnerships with fashion companies, houses, and businesses, providing students with practical training and attachment periods.
Fashion Expression 2024 aims to promote innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship in the fashion industry, contributing to Ghana’s socioeconomic development. The event has received support from sponsors, industry partners, and the university community, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship.
As KTU celebrates its 70th anniversary, Fashion Expression 2024 marks a significant milestone in the university’s history, showcasing the talents of its students and the faculty’s commitment to excellence in fashion education.
