The Kusase Youth have called on President John Dramani Mahama to urgently address the ongoing Bawku conflict, accusing his administration of failing to fulfill promises made during his campaign.
In a press conference, the youth expressed frustration over the government’s slow response to resolving the violent clashes in the area. They criticized politicians for allegedly using the Bawku conflict for their own political gains, leading to continued instability and loss of lives.
“When we brought you into power, we believed you would bring a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict. However, we now see that politicians are only using this situation for their own benefit,” a spokesperson for the group stated.
The Kusase Youth reminded Mahama of his past statements, where he blamed the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for fueling the crisis. They accused him of contradicting himself and failing to take decisive action now that he is in office.
“Mr. President, you once claimed that democracy is not the cause of the Bawku conflict but rather the NPP government. Now, what has changed? We demand immediate action to prevent further bloodshed,” the youth declared.
They also accused individuals within Mahama’s government of being complicit in the crisis, alleging that members of his inner circle support factions involved in the violence.
“Your promise to the Kusase people must be fulfilled without delay. The killings must stop, and a long-term solution must be implemented before tensions escalate further,” they urged.
The group further warned that failure to act swiftly could result in political consequences in future elections, emphasizing that the people of Bawku had placed their trust in Mahama based on his previous commitments.
“If you had shown this level of inaction before the elections, you wouldn’t have received even a single vote from us,” they added.
As violence continues to claim lives, including women and children, the Kusase Youth are calling for an immediate intervention to restore peace and stability in the region.
