Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC and the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially announced his intention to contest in the upcoming NPP presidential flagbearership election.
His declaration adds another high-profile name to the growing list of aspirants vying for the party’s top ticket ahead of the next general elections.
Abronye joins prominent figures such as Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, all of whom have already declared their bids.
Moreover, there are strong indications that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s 2024 flagbearer and current Vice President, will also be a contender, setting the stage for a competitive race.
In an exclusive interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese on OkayFM monitored by Kumasimail.com, Abronye DC firmly stated his readiness and qualification to contest for the NPP’s presidential flagbearership.
He asserted, “Do you know I will be contesting? I will contest the NPP flagbearership election. I am also a potential aspirant. Those who have declared their intent for the flagbearership, if they want it, I am more than qualified.”
Addressing questions about his academic credentials, Abronye was emphatic about his qualifications and dismissed allegations regarding poor academic performance.
“If it’s about certificates for the position (flagbearership), I have plenty. My certificates are not the ones that Ghana Tertiary Education will write to me to redraw,” he said confidently.
He revealed his academic credentials include a Second Class Upper in Law, a Master’s degree in Law from Lagon, where his lowest grade was a B-, and a Master’s in Petroleum Financing and Economics from Coventry University, with a lowest grade of C+.
Responding to claims that he failed law, Abronye challenged the narrative, stating, “If I had an F, how come I got a Second Class Upper?”
He added, “The reason I got a Second Class Upper was that a lecturer said I had spoken to his girl, so he deliberately reduced my grade. If not for that, I would have secured a First Class degree.”
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled its presidential primary election for Saturday, January 31, 2026. This primary will determine the party’s flagbearer leading into the 2028 general elections.
This date was officially announced by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, following a National Executive Committee meeting in June 2025 and endorsed by the National Council.
The party will open nominations for its presidential primaries on July 30 or 31, 2025. This was confirmed by the party’s Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, during an interview on July 22, 2025.
