Leader and founder of Union Government, Kwasi Addai Odike, has publicly endorsed Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to be considered as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ideal candidate for the upcoming presidential primary, set for January 31, 2026.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at a news conference in Kumasi Odike praised Dr. Adutwum’s remarkable contributions to the education sector, describing his tenure as one of the best in the country’s history.
He highlighted the strategic focus on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs as key foundations for national development.
Odike expressed concern over the influence of money and factionalism in Ghanaian party politics.
He criticized the prevailing trend where political parties allow candidates to be elected through means he described as bribery, pointing out that law enforcement often turns a blind eye to these practices.
“We have allowed politicians to do whatever they want, using money that amounts to bribery, while the police have looked unconcerned all these years. Commercial democracy has been entrenched, and bribing people to occupy high office is becoming normal in the country,” he stated.
He urged the NPP to elect a candidate who is calm and capable of driving Ghana’s progress rather than someone focused on factional or financial advantage.
Odike warned against allowing only delegates to choose candidates without vigilance, emphasizing that whoever is elected by major parties like the NPP or NDC becomes a potential president and thus must be carefully considered.
He firmly asserted that Dr. Adutwum’s “clean record” and proven results in education and leadership should make him the NPP’s choice.
“I urge them to be vigilant and elect someone who can help. I, Kwasi Addai, believe that if they elect Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, his life is clean.
“If you look at the educational front and what he has done, it is similar to what the Chinese did with TVET and STEM programs, which China has used to transform their country through technology. This transformation is helping them today. So, I plead with the NPP to consider and give the nod to Adutwum to lead the party,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Odike confirmed his own intention to contest in upcoming elections and vowed to hold a press conference when the opposition New Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate emerges to share his views.
“So that we, who will contest in the next election, will get the cream of the crop. I will contest and am sure the NDC will contest as well, and when theirs is approaching, I will hold a press conference and talk about it,” he indicated.
