Private legal practitioner and leading New Patriotic Party (NPP) figure in the Nandom Constituency, Lawyer Sylvester Isang, will on Thursday, August 13, 2026, formally declare his intention to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Lawyer Isang announced his decision in a post on Facebook on Monday, saying the “hour” had come for him to make his intentions known.
“The Hour is Here! Declaration of Intent: Thursday 13th August 2026 @12noon,” he posted, adding that his declaration would be transmitted live on his Facebook page.
His declaration will further intensify an emerging contest for the NPP’s parliamentary nomination, following former Nandom MP Ambrose Dery’s announcement on Tuesday that he would seek the party’s nomination again.
Former Nandom MP and longtime NPP parliamentary candidate Ambrose Dery announced on Tuesday, August 11, that he would contest the seat again, while Alois Mohl, former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund and a former member of the NPP’s National Executive Council, is also expected to seek the nomination. Martin K. Delle, former CEO defunct Ponzi scheme DKM Microfinance is understood to have been the first to publicly signal his intention, having erected signposts across Nandom announcing his bid in 2025.
Lawyer Isang’s entry would therefore set the stage for a potentially competitive four-way contest, subject to the formal opening of nominations and the eventual list of qualified aspirants.
The legal practitioner brings a combination of teaching, development work, law and legal practice to the contest.
He holds a teacher’s certificate from Tamale Training College (TATCO), a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Philosophy, University of Ghana, Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a Master of Science in Development and Sustainability .
He is the Master of Chambers at Isang@Law Chambers, a leading private law firm based in Tamale, where he practises as a legal practitioner.
His professional work has also given him exposure to public and private sector institutions and individuals, while his political involvement has taken him through both major political parties.
Lawyer Isang was previously a member and active supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a political journey he began while at Nandom Secondary School before eventually moving to the NPP.
He has since become a leading and active figure within the Nandom NPP and has been involved in the party’s constituency activities.
In an interview ahead of his declaration, Lawyer Isang said his interest in political leadership was not based simply on being a lawyer, stressing that his rural upbringing and experience with ordinary people were equally important to his consideration of public service.
He said he grew up in the village, farmed, hunted and gathered shea nuts, experiences which he believes have given him a deeper understanding of the challenges confronting households in Nandom.
His declaration comes at a time when the Nandom NPP is rebuilding following its defeat in the 2024 general elections, in which the party lost the parliamentary seat to the National Democratic Congress’ Richard Kuuire.
The emerging contest is therefore expected to attract considerable attention within the constituency as the NPP seeks a candidate capable of reclaiming the seat in 2028.
With Mr. Ambrose Dery’s decision to return, Mr. Alois Mohl’s expected candidature, Martin K. Delle having signaled his intention and Lawyer Sylvester Isang’s impending declaration, the Nandom NPP parliamentary contest is shaping up to be one of the party’s closely watched constituency primaries in the Upper West Region.
