Frustration appears to be mounting within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign camp as outspoken MP Andy Appiah-Kubi faces challenges in the race for the Asante Akim North Constituency ahead of the December 7 polls.
Independent candidate O.K. Frimpong seems to be winning the support of the constituency with his campaign activities, reportedly causing concern within the NPP camp. This has allegedly led the ruling party’s parliamentary candidate to consider questionable tactics to prevent a potential defeat.
A leaked audio recording, purportedly featuring the voice of Asante Akim North District Chief Executive (DCE) Francis Oti Boateng, has surfaced. In the recording, the alleged DCE appears to discuss election strategy with his younger brother, who resides in Canada.

In the audio, the individual resembling the DCE can be heard criticizing Andy Appiah-Kubi, calling him a “failure in the constituency” and accusing him of bribing delegates during the party’s parliamentary primaries. The DCE reportedly told his brother, “Nothing in this election favors Andy Appiah-Kubi in the constituency; he is most likely to lose miserably. He called me, complaining that things aren’t working in his campaign, so we should forget about Plan A and start focusing on Plan B.”
The audio further reveals the alleged DCE saying, “The BNI report I received suggests that the election is effectively over for Andy Appiah-Kubi. The independent candidate has reportedly won over about 90% of the EC’s electoral officials in the constituency, making it difficult for us to operate.”

The voice resembling the DCE continues, “Andy told me he won’t let his struggles in the primaries go to waste. He’s determined to ‘snatch all the ballot boxes in the constituency and swap them’ to avoid losing. I assured him, ‘Hon., you have my support.’” He is then heard laughing.
Additionally, the individual in the recording mentions that the EC has assured him they will allow changes in the list of electoral officers in the area. “We’re compiling the list through P-Tee,” he said.
The audio, allegedly recorded about six months ago, includes further complaints about Ernest Owusu Bempah, the NPP’s deputy director of elections, who the DCE claims is working against him. “Owusu Bempah wants me removed from office. He told the Ashanti Regional Minister about his success and dismissed me as ‘this foolish NDC boy.’ In this constituency, I’m his only hope for an MP position in the future, yet he’s working against me.”
The DCE allegedly added, “When the regional minister informed me of this, I told him I’m tired. They can sack me, and I’ll go and rest. People are jealous because I’m setting a record as the first DCE to serve two terms in this district.”
He disclosed the NPP’s are all broke they don’t have money to campaign “ All the NPP are in Accra chasing the President for money. Last year the President gave each MP hundred thousand cedis for both residential and parliamentary campaign this years they haven’t received any support from the President so they are struggling “ he alleged.
