The Local Governance Network (LOGNet) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Ahmed Ibrahim on his appointment as Minister for Local Governance, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.
Hon. Ibrahim, who also serves as a Minister of State in the new government, was vetted and approved by the 8th Parliament of the Republic of Ghana before being officially sworn into office by President John Dramani Mahama.
LOGNet, a coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs) dedicated to promoting local governance and community development, expressed its support for the minister, pledging collaboration to help achieve his vision and the broader objectives outlined in the 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto.
In a statement signed by its Steering Committee Chairman, Mr. John Nkaw, and National Coordinator, Mr. Christopher Dapaah, LOGNet emphasized the need for strong leadership to address pressing issues in local governance.
These challenges include delays in releasing the District Assembly Common Fund, inefficiencies in property rate collection, sanitation and environmental concerns, and limited access to quality public services at the local level.
The group also noted the growing apathy among citizens towards local authorities, which they hope the new minister will work to reverse.
LOGNet highlighted Hon. Ibrahim’s experience and leadership as key assets in fostering an inclusive governance system where all citizens, regardless of background, can participate in decision-making and contribute to national development.
“As advocates for inclusive governance, social justice, and community development, we are eager to collaborate with you to enhance good governance, preserve cultural heritage, and promote religious harmony,” the statement read.
LOGNet reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government policies and initiatives that seek to strengthen chieftaincy institutions, promote religious tolerance, and improve local service delivery.
The organization expressed confidence that Hon. Ibrahim’s tenure would be marked by significant achievements and positive change across Ghana’s 261 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
The statement concluded with a pledge of ongoing cooperation with the Ministry, assuring the minister of LOGNet’s unwavering support in implementing the government’s manifesto agenda.
