President John Dramani Mahama has assented to five Bills recently passed by Parliament of Ghana, giving them the full force of law.
The newly enacted laws include the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2026; the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences Act, 2026; the Ghana Deposit Protection (Amendment) Act, 2025; the Growth and Sustainability Levy (Amendment) Act, 2026; and the Education Regulatory Bodies (Amendment) Act, 2026.
Speaking briefly after the signing ceremony, President Mahama said the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act introduces major reforms aimed at strengthening coordination among security institutions and improving oversight.
He explained that the new law provides for a restructuring of supervisory arrangements within the intelligence sector and restores the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI).
The President emphasised that the reforms are intended to improve efficiency, accountability and cooperation among the country’s security agencies, while the other laws are expected to support reforms in the financial, education and revenue sectors.
