President John Dramani Mahama has asked the Majority Leader and the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament to withdraw a Private Member’s Bill that seeks to repeal the Act establishing the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
The request, contained in a statement issued by the Presidency on Thursday, follows the President’s renewed public support for strengthening the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) as a key institution in the national fight against corruption.
President Mahama reiterated that position during a meeting with the National Peace Council on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the President believes the OSP remains a “vital cog” in efforts to curb corruption and must be reinforced rather than dismantled.
He further urged the Office to intensify its work and take decisive steps to boost public confidence in its operations.
The Presidency added that strengthening the OSP aligns with the original objectives that informed the establishment of the office.
The statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, who serves as Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
