Flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Former President John Dramani Mahama has denied any involvement in the alleged attack on the Asantehene’s convoy in Techiman, describing the accusations as fake news orchestrated by the Ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, December 2, when some youth in Techiman allegedly threw stones at vehicles in the convoy, causing damage and injuries to some passengers.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace as Part of his campaign tour to the region, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer condemned the attack, stressing that neither he nor his party had any role in the violence attack.
“Nana, there’s something called fake news,” Mahama stated. “These propagators use computers to create voices similar to mine to deceive people. This morning, I woke up to an audio clip circulating with my picture attached, claiming I instructed the attack on one of your entourage’s convoys. This fabrication is coming from the government’s fake news machinery,” he said to Otumfuo.
He also recalled a discussion with Otumfuo before the funeral journey to Nkoranza. “Nana, before you left for the funeral, you informed me, and I wished you well. It is rather unfortunate that this incident happened. My detractors are now trying to link me to it for political gain,” Mahama remarked.
He further criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming their campaign had lost momentum. “Such baseless accusations clearly confirm that the NPP’s campaign has hit a dead end. Their campaign is failing, and now they have resorted to lies. ‘Nana, omo campaign no ato nsuom’ (their campaign has sunk),” he said mockingly.
Addressing Otumfuo, Mahama dismissed the allegations as false.“These claims against me are untrue. God knows our hearts, and He is the Chief Kingmaker. I firmly believe He will have mercy on Ghana. After what the NPP has done—creating unimaginable debt and destroying the economy—God will enthrone a leader to rebuild and restore the country on the right path,” Mahama concluded with a prayer.
