The Office of the President has extended an official invitation to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to participate in a high-level engagement on the issue of illegal mining in Ghana.

The engagement, convened under the direction of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 12:00 noon.

The venue for the meeting is Jubilee House in Accra.

This forum aims to foster a frank and constructive dialogue between the Government and civil society stakeholders on the pervasive challenge of illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.

The meeting seeks to harness the collective expertise, perspectives, and solutions from various organisations to effectively address this critical national concern.

The event will bring together a diverse group of representatives, including executive directors, presidents, and coordinators from religious bodies, environmental groups, legal associations, media coalitions, student unions, and development organisations.

Notable participants include the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ghana, Christian Council of Ghana, Ghana Chamber of Mines, Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, Amnesty International, Ghana Journalist Association, and many others actively engaged in sustainable development, governance, and environmental protection.

Those invited are asked to accept the assurances of President John Dramani Mahama, emphasizing the Government’s commitment to collaborative approaches and strong partnerships with civil society to combat illegal mining and protect Ghana’s natural resources.

The Secretary to the President signed off the communication addressed to a broad alliance of stakeholders including religious leaders, policy institutes, media organizations, legal and student associations, environmental activists, and mining industry representatives, highlighting the inclusive nature of the engagement.
