Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has described former President John Dramani Mahama as a “spent force” in Ghanaian politics.
Addressing a rally at Tafo-Pankrono in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Prempeh criticized Mahama’s leadership record, asserting that he failed to leave behind a meaningful legacy during his presidency.
Speaking to thousands of enthusiastic NPP supporters, Dr. Prempeh, popularly known as “Napo,” stated that Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer for the 2024 elections, had already been rejected twice by the electorate.
According to him, Mahama cannot be trusted to offer solutions to the country’s pressing challenges.
“John Mahama had the opportunity to lead this country, but his tenure was marked by failure. His days in office were overshadowed by the persistent ‘Dumsor’ crisis and controversial policies such as the cancellation of teacher and nursing trainee allowances.
His return bid should be judged by the track record he left behind,” Dr. Prempeh told the crowd.
Rally Highlights: Progress in Tafo-Pankrono
The rally drew thousands of supporters who thronged the streets of Old Tafo-Pankrono to hear the NPP’s message. Dr. Prempeh, joined by the area’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, showcased the constituency’s achievements under NPP leadership.
During his visit, Dr. Prempeh toured key projects, including Assafuah 92.7 FM, the constituency’s first community radio station, and commissioned a newly constructed police station in Pankrono. He also engaged with market women and community stakeholders, emphasizing the tangible development delivered under the Akufo-Addo-led government.
“These projects are evidence of what visionary leadership can achieve,” he noted, urging the community to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Vincent Ekow Assafuah to ensure continued progress.
Tackling Power Challenges
Dr. Prempeh addressed Ghana’s ongoing power issues, contrasting the current situation with the infamous ‘Dumsor’ crisis under Mahama’s presidency.
He accused the NDC of attempting to sabotage the government through recent intermittent power outages but assured the public that investigations would uncover the truth.
He highlighted the Akufo-Addo administration’s strides in stabilizing the energy sector and reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving current challenges.
“Unlike under Mahama, today’s power issues are different. We have made significant progress, and we won’t allow any sabotage to derail it,” he stated.
Call to Action
Dr. Prempeh concluded by urging the residents of Old Tafo to vote decisively for Dr. Bawumia and the NPP parliamentary candidate, Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah.
“Let’s choose progress over regression. Dr. Bawumia and Hon. Assafuah represent a brighter future for Old Tafo and Ghana,” he said, drawing applause from the crowd.
