President John Dramani Mahama has presented a 33-seater Eicher bus to the Ghana Prisons Service to enhance its transportation capacity and support the effective discharge of its operational duties.
The presentation was made on Wednesday at the Prisons Headquarters in Accra on behalf of the President by the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.
According to the Interior Minister, the gesture fulfils a commitment made by President Mahama during the commissioning of the Damongo Camp Prison.
Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak expressed appreciation to President Mahama for the intervention, stressing that adequate logistics and essential resources were critical to strengthening the country’s security services.
“Providing adequate logistics and essential resources remains critical to strengthening our security services and enabling them to effectively discharge their mandates in service to the nation,” he said.
Receiving the keys on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service, its Director-General, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, expressed gratitude to President Mahama for the support.
She assured that the bus would be deployed to the designated prison facility and put to its intended use without delay.
The presentation was supported by the Deputy Minister for the Interior, Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi; the Chief Executive Officer of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Mr. Afetsi Awoonor; officials of the Ministry of the Interior; and officers of the Ghana Prisons Service.
The provision of the bus is expected to improve the Service’s transportation capacity and contribute to more efficient prison administration and operations.
