The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustus Andrews, has emphasized that providing access to credit facilities, particularly for women, will be a key priority for former President John Dramani Mahama if he returns to office.
He explained that this focus stems from an understanding of the crucial role women play in the economy.
“Empowering women with credit to invest in businesses will help enhance the socio-economic well-being of the society and help reduce poverty in the country, hence the introduction of the Women’s Development Bank by John Dramani Mahama in his second coming,” Chairman Andrews stated.
The regional chairman, affectionately known as Chairman Nana Akwasi, made these remarks while leading a team from the regional party office in a cleanup exercise in the Bantama constituency alongside the area’s parliamentary candidate, Hon. Kwadwo Addai Dapaah.
Chairman Nana Akwasi pointed out that the current economic challenges under the Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia administration have made it difficult for businesses to thrive and limited access to credit.
He attributed these difficulties to what he described as poor economic policies and governance by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
“Businesses are collapsing under this government. Even some of the big companies are laying off workers while others are folding up due to high taxation,” he stressed, adding, “this development has given rise to high unemployment and poverty in our country. We must all come together and vote the NPP out.”
Kwadwo Addai Dapaah, the parliamentary candidate for Bantama, encouraged the market women to remain confident and support the NDC’s leader, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, and the Vice-Presidential candidate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
He urged them to vote decisively for the NDC in the December elections, promising that such a victory would lead to significant improvements in job creation and accelerated national growth.
