The Minister in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has assured Ghanaians that President John Dramani Mahama will appoint a substantive Minister for Defence in due course.
Since the tragic helicopter crash on August 6 that claimed the life of Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has been serving as acting Defence Minister.
The ministry has remained without a permanent head, prompting calls from various quarters, including former Defence Minister and Bimbilla MP Dominic Nitiwul, for a swift appointment.
Nitiwul expressed concern over the delay, noting rising security threats in the West African region. He said Ghana requires strong and focused leadership at the Defence Ministry and urged the President to either promote the current deputy minister or nominate a new minister to ensure stability and continuity.
Speaking on Newsfeed on Channel One TV on Monday, October 27, Ofosu dismissed suggestions that appointing a successor would be difficult. He stressed that President Mahama is professional and pragmatic and understands the need to ensure effective leadership at the ministry.
