At a high-profile military event held at the Central Command, Major General (Rtd.) Richard Poku Adusei praised the Ghana Armed Forces for their continued commitment to military traditions, particularly in the art of drill.
Speaking as the guest of honor, the retired general expressed his gratitude to the General Officer Commanding Central Command for extending the invitation, noting that it was a privilege to witness such a significant occasion on the training calendar for 2024.
In his address, Major General Adusei emphasized the importance of drill in the military profession. He cited the essential role it plays in ensuring discipline, unity, and precision among soldiers.
Quoting from the military’s drill manual, he underscored that the purpose of drill is to enable commanders to move their units in an orderly manner, instilling precision and obedience to commands.
“Drill enhances military customs and traditions, and its benefits are enormous. It must be encouraged,” he stated, highlighting that the practice promotes discipline, teamwork, and esprit de corps. He further elaborated that quick response to orders fosters trust between commanders and troops, preventing disorder and chaos during operations.
During the event, Major General Adusei congratulated the participating units in the competition, with special commendations given to the 154 Armored Regiment, the Central Command, and the 4th Battalion for securing first, second, and third places respectively in the drill competition.
The 3rd Battalion, Central Command, and the 4th Battalion were also recognized for their outstanding performance in the vigorous competition. He applauded their hard work and dedication, urging all units to continue training and preparing for future competitions.
Looking ahead, Major General Adusei touched on the upcoming national elections, reminding the troops of their vital role in maintaining peace and order. “As we head toward the polls to elect our new president and parliamentarians, tensions are mounting, and the stakes are high. The military will be called upon to assist civil authorities in ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections,” he noted.
He advised the soldiers to perform their duties with professionalism, without partisanship or favoritism, stating that the country and the world are counting on them to uphold the highest standards of integrity.
The event concluded with Major General Adusei expressing gratitude to Nana Susubiribi Abuboyar I, CEO of Abuboyar Trading Company, and Sundar Trading Company for their generous donations of an Abuboyar tricycle and detergents, which will support the Central Command’s activities.
In his closing remarks, Major General Adusei thanked all present for their enthusiasm and participation, stating, “Your dedication to our noble profession is commendable, and I encourage you to continue striving for excellence.”
