A shocking case of human trafficking has been uncovered in the Central Region, where a 30-year-old man, Nana Kofi Amofa, alias Kofi Yesu, was arrested for attempting to sell his 6-year-old niece for GHC150,000.
According to sources, Amofa had planned to use the money to acquire a visa to travel to Canada. He was apprehended by the Central East Regional Police Intelligence Unit (PID) on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, around 10:00 PM at Gomoa Buduburam near Obolo Estate.
The police received a tip-off about Amofa’s intentions and dispatched officers to pose as buyers. During the sting operation, Amofa demanded GHC150,000 for the young girl.
Upon interrogation, Amofa revealed that the victim is the daughter of his senior brother, Kwadwo Brako, who resides in Nyamebekyere, a village near Akyem Ayirebi in the Eastern Region.
He had lured the girl to live with him under the pretext of providing better educational opportunities.
The suspect and the victim have been handed over to the Kasoa DOVVSU department for further investigations.
This disturbing incident highlights the need for vigilance and swift action against human trafficking in Ghana.
