Mr. Mark Kakraba, a strong advocate for political reform, has called for a national referendum to abolish Ghana’s multi-party democratic system and adopt a non-partisan model of governance.
Speaking to HelloFm’s Kwame Wilder, he stressed that the current constitutional framework that supports party-based politics must be amended through a democratic process involving the will of the people.
According to Mr. Kakraba, the multi-party system is at the root of many of Ghana’s pressing challenges, including corruption, illegal mining (galamsey), and environmental degradation.
He believes partisan politics has fostered a culture where loyalty to political parties supersedes the national interest, leading to mismanagement and lack of accountability.
He further explained that transitioning to a non-partisan system would allow leaders to focus on national development without political interference.
“In a non-partisan democracy, competence and integrity will matter more than party affiliation,” he added.
