The Military Police have arrested Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Williams Mensah, a soldier captured in a viral video physically assaulting a pharmacy attendant and a female customer at a drugstore located within Burma Camp in Accra.
The incident, which sparked widespread outrage after the video circulated on social media, shows the uniformed soldier confronting and attacking the two individuals inside the pharmacy. The footage also captured other customers attempting to intervene as the situation escalated.
In a statement, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) confirmed the arrest of WO1 Mensah and assured the public that the matter is under investigation. GAF further emphasized that acts of indiscipline and misconduct among personnel will not be tolerated.
“The Ghana Armed Forces condemn in no uncertain terms the unprofessional behavior exhibited by the soldier in the video. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken following investigations,” the statement read.
The victims, whose identities have not been disclosed, are reportedly receiving medical attention following the assault.
The incident has reignited public debate on the conduct of security personnel and the need for stricter accountability measures within the armed forces.
Meanwhile, the Military Police have indicated that WO1 Mensah remains in custody and will face disciplinary proceedings in accordance with military regulations.
