The Minority Caucus in Parliament has donated GHC200,000 to support victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Blue Light Market in Adum, Kumasi.
The donation, presented during a brief ceremony in Kumasi, is aimed at providing immediate relief to traders who lost their wares and livelihoods in the devastating blaze.
Presenting the cash donation, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin expressed deep sympathy to the affected traders and urged the government to urgently intervene with additional support.
He called for the activation of the Contingency Fund to supplement efforts in helping the victims recover and rebuild their businesses.
“The government must show the same level of urgency and compassion as it has in other similar tragedies,” Afenyo-Markin said.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the affected traders, Chairman of the market trader’s association, Joseph Bobie Ansah, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Minority for their timely gesture.
“We are deeply grateful for this support. It will go a long way to ease the burden on our members who have lost everything,” Mr. Ansah said.
