Patrick Kwame Atuah, the Corporate Communications Director for the National Service Authority, has urged Minority Leader, Kwamena Afenyo Markin to remain calm and be prepared to answer questions regarding the missing 1300 ECG containers.
Atuah’s remarks come as the controversy surrounding the missing containers continues to escalate, with fingers pointed squarely at the previous administration.
Atuah questioned why Afenyo Markin, who served as the board chair of ECG during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s tenure, remained silent about his suspicions of theft at the time.
“Afenyo Markin was at the helm of ECG, yet he never blew the whistle on the alleged wrongdoing,” Atuah pointed out. “Ghanaians should ask him: did you raise any alarms about your suspicions? The answer is no. If Ghanaians hadn’t voted against the NPP, allowing the NDC to come to power, Afenyo Markin would have remained quiet about these wrongdoings.”
In an interview on OTEC Fm, Atuah emphasized that the minority leader cannot distance himself from the scandal.
“Afenyo Markin and all appointees in that sector under Akufo-Addo have questions to answer. It’s time for them to take responsibility for their actions”, he stressed.
In a shocking twist, Atuah revealed that an arrested Indian national allegedly claimed that a minister, Peter Amewu, sold him 40 containers.
“One of Akufo-Addo’s ministers, Peter Amewu, an arrested Indian national, has alleged that he sold 40 containers to him. Therefore, the conversation we are having must be specific. This is a crime that occurred during Akufo-Addo’s tenure as President.
“If we are discussing how the NPP mismanaged Ghana, the disappearance of 1300 ECG containers must be included in the narrative.”
This revelation has further implicated officials in the theft, raising serious questions about the extent of corruption within the previous government.
Atuah clarified that the containers did not go missing during the current NDC administration. Instead, discrepancies in the figures provided during the transition period led to an investigation, which revealed that 1300 containers were unaccounted for.
“Let’s make it clear that none of the containers went missing under this NDC’s regime. It was the figures provided to us during the transition that we were investigating. The investigation revealed that the figures did not add up. When we (the NDC) took over the ministry, we found that the number of containers had decreased by 1300”, he explained.
