A violent mob of supporters from the losing team attacked police officers at a football match final organized by TW Mines in Suhyenso, Obuasi, escalating into an assault on an officer and an attempt to seize his CZ Assault Rifle.
The incident unfolded yesterday, January 3, during the climax of the tournament pitting BTW Tweapease against Suhyenso.
Suhyenso clinched a 1-0 victory, sparking immediate celebrations from the winning side that reportedly included taunts and hooting directed at the defeated Tweapease fans.

According to eyewitnesses and sources close to the event, the post-match jubilation proved unbearable for Tweapease supporters, who suspected some officers were joining in the teasing.

Tension boiled over as the mob turned on the police on duty, launching a coordinated assault.
One officer bore the brunt of the attack.
Sources told Kumasimail the assailants slapped him from behind, followed by soft blows, before escalating to a forceful bid to wrest his gun away. The injured officer, who sustained cuts above his eyes, fired a warning shot to deter the crowd but the mob pressed on, briefly seizing the weapon.
Plainclothes police officers on the ground, alongside Mangos the mines’ security guards intervened swiftly to de-escalate.
One undercover officer reclaimed the gun from the mob, though they fled with the rifle magazine. Later that evening, after intensive police efforts, authorities recovered the magazine intact, sources confirmed.
The chaos extended to the mining security team, with civilians hurling stones at the guards.
No arrests were reported immediately, but a formal case has been lodged at the Obuasi Police Station for investigation.
Police and the mining company (TW Mines) have yet to issue an official statement, but insiders described the response as effective in preventing further violence at the community event.
