The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, has encouraged young girls participating in the National Girls-in-ICT Programme to be fearless, curious and committed to shaping the country’s digital future.

He made the call during a mentorship session hosted by MTN Ghana in partnership with the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI) for 100 finalists from the Ashanti and Greater Accra regions.

“This is the beginning of your digital career. Your creativity, curiosity, and boldness will help define Ghana’s digital future. Take this opportunity very seriously. Be fearless, keep asking questions, keep experimenting. The digital economy needs more girls like you” Mr Blewett told the participants.

Other female executives from MTN Ghana also inspired the girls by sharing their career journeys. Chief Customer Experience Officer Jemima Kotei-Walsh and Chief Enterprise Officer

Angela Mensah-Poku urged the participants to persevere in pursuing their ambitions.

The session also featured MTN Women in Technology (WIT), a leadership training programme for selected female employees as part of the company’s diversity and inclusion strategy. WIT members mentored the girls on Child Online Protection and Data Management. The participants also toured the Network Monitoring Centre and a Cell Site.

The Girls-in-ICT initiative is a flagship programme of the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations designed to equip girls and their teachers with essential digital skills.

Since 2021, MTN Ghana has invested GH¢ 17.6 million in the programme, training over 13,000 girls aged 9 to 15 and 1,300 teachers across 11 regions of Ghana. These include North-East, Western-North, Ahafo, Bono-East, Bono, Savannah, Northern, Eastern, Greater Accra, Ashanti and Volta regions. Beneficiaries have acquired practical skills in coding, website design, game development and animation.
